Editing Existing Content Safely
By the end of this module you will have a simple pre-edit ritual, a clear boundary between safe edits and ask-first edits, and an instant undo for when something goes sideways.

Step-by-step instructions
- The pre-edit ritual: before opening the editor, know exactly what you are changing. Make one change at a time. Save. Check the live page. Never “while I’m in here…”.
- The boundary:
- Safe to edit yourself: text wording, image swaps, button labels and links, phone numbers, hours, dates, prices.
- Ask GM&F first: anything involving layout, colors, fonts, new sections or pages, menus, or deleting anything.
- Undo: Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) inside the builder undoes your recent edits. And before you save, leaving with Don’t Save is the ultimate undo — the page stays exactly as it was.
- The 15-minute rule: stuck or surprised for 15 minutes? Stop. Exit without saving. Email GM&F with the page name and what you were trying to do. That is faster and cheaper than digging deeper.
What you should practice
- Perform one full ritual edit end-to-end on a real page: one small text change → save → verify on the live page.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Batch-editing five pages in one sitting on day one. Confidence grows one verified edit at a time.
- “Fixing” alignment or spacing. That is styling — it is set globally, and per-page fixes break the pattern.
- Editing during your busiest hours. Edit when a mistake would have time to be fixed calmly.
- Assuming a weird look means you broke it. Often it is your browser showing an old copy — refresh with Ctrl+Shift+R (Cmd+Shift+R) before worrying. More in Module 10.
